When designing your ethanol fireplace, keep in mind these simple safety guidelines:
- Ethanol burner has to be fitted into a firebox that complies with clearance requirements of that particular burner (you will need to refer to the product manual)
- Your custom made firebox or surface must be made out of a non-combustible material, such as stainless steel, stone, wonder board.
Most ethanol burners have the following clearance requirements, but you will need to check the requirements of the particular burner that you are installing:
- A&B: approximately 2 inches
- C: 2-4 inches, depending on the size of the burner
- D: 24-30 inches, depending on the size of the burner
Ethanol burners provide so many wonderful design opportunities! Without the restriction of a chimney or a vent you can get so much more creative with the style and placement of your fireplace.
Building and ethanol fireplace is also more cost effective because you don't need to invest in expensive infrastructure to support ventilation and fuel like with wood-burning or gas fireplaces.
