Water Vapor Fireplace in a bar

Modern Blaze supplied a water vapor fireplace for Bar Rescue's makeover of Purser's Bar (Linda Lou's) in Layton, Utah and it turned out amazing!

Bar Rescue team turned a run-down dive bar Linda Lou's into trendy speakeasy Purser's Bar. You can watch the full episode here: Bar Rescue Season 7, Episode 3 - Breaking Brandon

Here is a preview video of the episode from the Paramount YouTube page: https://youtu.be/ccvFjKsVoGU

Before:

Linda Lou's was a run-down dive bar. Once you passed the bar area, the room was one long, open space compiled with a hodgepodge of tables, pool tables, dartboards, and vending machines.

After:

Linda Lou's bar was renamed into Purser's Bar and transformed into a speakeasy. It has a laundromat from the exterior with a secret door that opens up to a warm, cozy library-style speakeasy.

Bar Rescue host, Jon Taffer, wanted to break up the long room. So he separated it into two spaces with the help of our Dimplex Opti-Myst Water Vapor Fireplace that could be enjoyed from both sides.

Overall, the addition of our Dimplex Opti-Myst water vapor fireplace played a huge role in enhancing an intimate and warm environment of the newly remodeled speakeasy.

The host Jon Taffer liked it so much that he wanted to use it in more future renovations, so stay tuned for more Bar Rescue episodes featuring water vapor fireplaces from Modern Blaze!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a water vapor fireplace?

A fireplace that builds its flame out of water. A tank of ordinary water is broken into an ultra-fine mist and lit from below, so what rises through the opening is illuminated fog shaped like fire. Nothing is burning in it.

Why did Bar Rescue use one instead of a conventional fireplace?

Because it can be seen from both sides. Jon Taffer wanted one long room split into two spaces, and the Opti-Myst gave him a fire that reads from either side of the partition rather than facing one way.

What is the difference between a water vapor fireplace and an electric one?

How the flame is produced. An electric fireplace makes a flame effect with LEDs behind a screen, so the image is flat. A water vapor fireplace makes a three-dimensional plume that moves like smoke, and it needs a water supply, either refilled by hand or plumbed in. An electric unit needs nothing but power.

Does a water vapor fireplace put out heat?

Only if it has a heater in it, and that heater is a separate electric element rather than the flame. Dimplex sells a built-in heater accessory for the Opti-Myst range precisely because the mist on its own does not warm a room.

Does a water vapor fireplace add moisture to the room?

Yes. The flame effect is airborne water, so the unit puts moisture into the air the whole time it runs. How much you notice depends on the size of the space, which is why it is far less obvious in a bar than in a small closed room.

What is the difference between a water vapor cassette and a complete water vapor fireplace?

A cassette is the flame engine on its own, meant to drop into a surround you or your installer build. A complete fireplace arrives as a finished firebox with its own housing. The cassette buys you a custom opening; the firebox buys you a known set of dimensions.
