What Is a Propane Fire Pit Table?

A propane fire pit table is outdoor furniture with a gas burner built into the middle of it. It runs from a standard propane cylinder rather than a gas line, which is the whole point: there is nothing to install, no trenching, and no permanent commitment to one spot on the patio. Connect the tank, light the burner, and the table works as a fire feature. Cap the burner and it works as a table.

Shapes, Matched to the Seating You Already Own

Shape is a question of what the furniture is doing, not an aesthetic preference. Get it wrong and people either shout across a gap or crowd onto one side.

• Rectangular and linear follow the line of a sofa or sectional instead of fighting it, and give a run of flame rather than a single point.

Materials, and How Each One Ages Outside

Everything here is built for outdoors. They weather differently, and that matters more than how they look on delivery day.

• GFRC and concrete. Glass fiber reinforced concrete keeps a panel thin and strong, so you get the mass and quiet of concrete without the bulk of a solid cast piece, and a crisper edge than plain concrete holds. It also takes a texture, which is how some tables are cast to look like timber while still being concrete.
• Powder-coated and stainless steel. The thinnest profile of any material here, so a steel table reads lighter and more sculptural than concrete at the same size. Stainless resists corrosion, which is why it turns up on coastal and commercial projects.
• Aluminum. Light enough to reposition without help, and naturally rust-resistant.
• Reclaimed wood. Warmth and history a manufactured finish cannot copy, suited to rustic and winery settings. Expect to give it more care than concrete or steel.

Whatever the body is made from, the burner should be stainless steel. Anything else rusts.

What to Confirm Before You Order

• Decorative media is required and usually sold separately. A gas burner needs fire glass or lava rock over it to spread the flame and shield the burner. The quantity scales with the size of the table, so order it at the same time.
• Check the tank fits. Most tables conceal a standard cylinder in the base, but not all of them, and not every size takes every tank.
• Check clearances, not just the footprint. A table that fits the open floor can still sit too close to siding, a railing or an overhead structure.
• A burner cover turns it back into a table. If the daytime surface matters, confirm one is available for that model.
• Wind guards are model-specific. On an exposed patio they change how the flame behaves, but only use one approved for that table.
