Real Fyre Vent-Free Gas Logs, Made in the USA

Real Fyre is the gas log line of the Robert H. Peterson Co. in City of Industry, California. Every Real Fyre gas log set here is vent-free: the burner runs clean enough to need no chimney, and an oxygen depletion sensor pilot shuts it off if the room's oxygen drops. The logs are ceramic refractory, which Real Fyre warrants for life, and the burners carry a 10-year warranty.

    Charred, Designer or Contemporary

    • Charred log sets have blackened, burned-through log faces, so the fire looks like it has been going for hours. Charred Frontier Oak shows the look, and the Evening Fyre log sets add wood chunks to the ember bed. Several also appear in our most realistic ventless gas logs.
    • Designer and Foothill log sets show fresh bark and clean split faces. Lava granules and glowing embers fill the bed.
    • Contemporary burners skip the logs entirely: a stainless steel burner topped with fire glass or fire gems, for a modern firebox. The 24-inch burner takes 10 pounds of glass in the color you choose.

Several of each style also come as see-through log sets, for a fireplace open on two sides.

    One Burner Certified Two Ways

The G10 burner under the Charred Series is certified both as an unvented room heater (ANSI Z21.11.2) and as a vented decorative appliance (ANSI Z21.60). If your fireplace cannot meet the vent-free clearances to the mantel and side walls, the manual lets the log set run with the damper open as a vented appliance instead.

Room Size and Local Code Come First

A vent-free gas log set draws its air from the room, so the room has to be big enough: at least 50 cubic feet for every 1,000 BTU, per the National Fuel Gas Code quoted in Real Fyre's manual. Gas log sets over 10,000 BTU cannot go in a bedroom, which is why Valley Oak 9,500 BTU exists. Some states and cities restrict vent-free appliances altogether, California and parts of Massachusetts among them, so check your local code first. Real Fyre rates these log sets as supplemental heat, not a primary heat source.

Order the Fuel Your House Uses

Every log set comes in natural gas or propane, chosen on the product page, and the manual rules out converting it later. Several listings are the burner with the log set added as a required option, since the burner will not run without its logs. Check what is included before you compare prices.

Frequently Asked Questions about Real Fyre Gas Logs

Who makes Real Fyre gas logs?

The Robert H. Peterson Co., based in City of Industry, California, which is why you will also see them sold as Peterson Real Fyre. The gas log sets here are made in the USA.

    Are Real Fyre logs ceramic?

Yes. The logs are ceramic refractory, and Real Fyre covers them with a lifetime warranty. Real Fyre's contemporary burners use fire glass or fire gems instead of logs, covered for five years.

Can Real Fyre vent-free logs be used as vented logs?

The G10 burner under the Charred Series is certified for both, as an unvented room heater and as a vented decorative appliance. If the fireplace cannot meet the vent-free mantel and side wall clearances, the manual requires running it with the damper open as a vented log set. For other burners, check that model's manual.

Do Real Fyre gas logs need a chimney?

No. They need an approved place instead: a masonry or factory-built wood-burning fireplace whose manual does not exclude vent-free burners, or a certified vent-free firebox. The room also has to give at least 50 cubic feet for every 1,000 BTU.

Which Real Fyre gas log set can go in a bedroom?

Valley Oak 9,500 BTU, because the vent-free standard keeps gas log sets over 10,000 BTU out of bedrooms. It still has to be allowed by your local code, and some states restrict vent-free appliances entirely.

Do Real Fyre gas logs come with a remote?

It depends on the log set. Charred and Designer log sets offer a manual safety pilot, an on/off remote or a variable flame remote, and several charred log sets add electronic ignition. The Foothill and see-through log sets and the contemporary burners are remote-only. The options are listed on each product page.
