What is the difference between a Dimplex insert and a Dimplex firebox?

Where it is meant to go. An insert slides into a masonry fireplace opening that already exists, so the opening sets the size. A firebox is framed into a new wall, so you set the size. Dimplex puts the word in the model name, which is the fastest way to tell them apart on a product page.

What is the difference between a plug-in and a built-in Dimplex firebox?

The cord. A plug-in unit ships with one and runs from a standard outlet, which makes it the easy retrofit. A built-in is intended to be wired in behind the wall for a face with no cord showing. Dimplex names which is which in the product title.

Do Dimplex electric inserts give off heat?

Most carry a heater, and it is supplemental heat rather than a heating system. An electric fireplace warms the air with a fan-forced element, so it does real work in a closed room and very little in a large open one. The size of the room decides how much you feel it.

Can you run the flame without the heat?

Do you make these for 3 sided fire places?

Thank you for your question. You can find power requirements for each individual product on the product page. Generally, all plug-in fireboxes are designed to be plugged into a standard 120V household outlet. Hardwired models can be wired to 120/208/240 Volts. Generally, hardwiring to 240V will double the heat output (refer to the product manual for the particular fireplace you are interested in).
