Dimplex Deluxe Built-In Electric Fireboxes

Dimplex Deluxe electric fireboxes are the traditional-format models in the Dimplex line: a firebox that drops into a masonry opening you already have, or into a framed one you build. Each has a faux brick interior, hand-finished LED logs that glow from within, and embers that glow in sync with them.

A Firebox, Not a Finished Fireplace

What you are buying is the part that makes the flame and the heat. The surround, the mantel and the finish are the rest of the project. That is the flexibility of the format in a remodel, and it is also the honest answer to why the finished job costs more than the firebox. Optional trim kits and door kits finish the edge of the opening.

Sizing

Measure the front of the existing opening and choose the width that fits inside with clearance. If you are framing new, build to the manufacturer's opening dimensions rather than the firebox's outer measurements.

Heat, Air and Running Costs

Output runs from about 4,900 to 9,200 BTU depending on model and setting. That is supplemental, sized for the room it faces. The fireboxes also carry the Dimplex Purifire air treatment system, which Dimplex says cleans the air while the heater runs. Because the heater and the flame are independent, most owners run flame only for much of the year, which is also the cheapest way to run one. An optional plug kit lets them run from a standard outlet.

What makes the Deluxe different from the Standard insert?

The Deluxe models are built-in fireboxes with a faux brick interior, glowing LED logs and the Purifire air treatment system, and they take optional trim and door kits for a finished opening. The Standard insert is a smaller firebox designed to fit many existing wood fireplace openings, with an optional expandable trim. Choose by the size and finish of the opening you are filling.

Which width fits my opening?

Measure the existing firebox opening at the front and choose the model that fits inside it with clearance. If you are framing a new opening instead, build to the manufacturer's dimensions rather than to the firebox's outside measurements.

Is this a firebox or a complete fireplace?

A firebox. It is the insert that produces the flame and heat; the surround, mantel and finish are yours. That is what makes it flexible in a remodel, and it is also why the finished cost is not just the firebox price.

How much heat do they give?

Roughly 4,915 to 9,222 BTU depending on model and setting. Supplemental heat for the room it faces, not a primary heat source.

Do they need a dedicated circuit?

Check the model's electrical requirement before framing, because it varies with the heat setting. Discovering the requirement after the wall is closed is the expensive version of this question.

Can they run flame only?

Yes. The heater is independent of the flame on all three, so the firebox runs as a visual feature through summer and the heat is switched in when wanted.
