A U-tube folds the same burner back on itself, reaching the same output in roughly half the length and concentrating it over a tighter footprint. The deciding factor is usually the clear run you have overhead rather than the output. If you have the ceiling length, the straight tube covers more evenly; if you do not, the U-tube gets the same heat into half the space.

    Vented or unvented

    Outdoors and under open cover these run unvented. Indoors you have two options: vent the exhaust through a wall or roof, or run unvented in a space with enough ventilation air.
