The Same Output as a Straight Tube, in Half the Length
This is a gas-fired low-intensity infrared tube heater with the burner tube folded back on itself. It is the version to buy when the heat you need does not fit the ceiling you have. Roberts-Gordon builds it for warehouses, shops, hangars and vehicle service bays, and it works equally well over a covered patio.
Five outputs, 65,000 to 150,000 BTU, in 13 to 23 ft. Compare that with the straight-tube model, which needs 21 to 41 ft for the same range. At 150,000 BTU the straight run is 41 ft 6 in and this one is 23 ft. Nothing is gained or lost in heat output, only in how the run fits your building.
The trade is real, though. A U-tube concentrates its heat over a shorter footprint, so it warms a tighter area more intensely. A straight tube spreads the same output down a longer line. For a narrow bay or a defined seating area, the U-tube is usually the better shape. For a long aisle or a wide patio, the straight run covers it more evenly.
Infrared heats objects rather than air, which is why it holds up in buildings with high ceilings, frequent door openings, or any space where warmed air would simply escape.
Mounting height runs 9 to 20 ft depending on output, so check your clear ceiling height before choosing. Mounted too low and the heat is uncomfortable underneath; too high and it thins out.
Vented or unvented. Unvented outdoors and in open covered areas. Indoors, either vent it through a 4 in flue or provide ventilation air, which code puts at a minimum of 4 CFM per 1,000 BTU/hr.
Roberts-Gordon publishes no square-foot coverage figure for these. Sizing is done from the building's heat loss and the mounting height, not from a chart, and we are happy to help you work through it.
