High-Bay Heat, Folded into a 22-Foot Run
A gas-fired low-intensity infrared tube heater with the burner tube folded back on itself, from Roberts-Gordon. Same equipment class that heats warehouses, manufacturing floors, hangars and service bays, in a shape that fits a shorter building.
Seven outputs, 60,000 to 150,000 BTU, in 12 ft 6 in to 22 ft 6 in. The straight-tube version needs 20 to 41 ft for the same outputs. If your clear run is short but your heat demand is not, this is the answer.
One correction worth making, because our own copy used to get this wrong: the U-tube does not produce more heat than the straight tube. Both reach 150,000 BTU. The U-tube reaches it in roughly half the length, and concentrates that heat over a tighter footprint. That is the actual difference.
Mounting height runs 10 to 12 ft on the smallest up to 20 to 25 ft on the largest. These are built for tall buildings, and infrared is why: it radiates onto the floor and the equipment instead of warming air that would collect uselessly at a 25 ft ceiling.
Vented or unvented. Unvented outdoors and under open cover. Indoors, vent through a 4 in flue or provide ventilation air, which code sets at a minimum of 4 CFM per 1,000 BTU/hr. A 150,000 BTU unit run unvented indoors needs 600 CFM, which is a real design decision rather than a footnote.
