Description

The Smart mWAVE That Runs on Ordinary Household Power

The IR Energy mWAVE Smart 1500W is a wall- or ceiling-mounted electric infrared heater with Wi-Fi and a remote built in. It warms you directly, the way sunlight does, so you feel it within seconds instead of waiting for the air to heat up. It is the smallest heater in the mWAVE series and the only one built for a standard 120-volt circuit, which makes it a natural fit for a covered patio seating area, a garage workbench or a sunroom corner.

Medium-Wave Heat With Less Glare Than Short-Wave

Inside is a woven carbon element sealed in a quartz tube. It produces medium-wave infrared, which still glows a warm orange but with less glare than a short-wave lamp, and IR Energy says the woven carbon runs cooler than a coiled wire element, without harsh light or hot spots. IR Energy rates the mWAVE at 90% radiant efficiency under AHRI 1330 testing, meaning most of the power becomes heat aimed down at you rather than warming the air near the ceiling.

Control It From the Remote, Your Phone or Your Voice

The included remote gives you on and off, five heat levels from about a third of full output up to 100%, and a shutoff timer of up to nine hours. Point it at the heater from within about 16 feet. Add the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app and you can do the same from anywhere, set schedules, and group it with other mWAVE Smart heaters. It also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. The app needs a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

Mounted at 8 Feet, It Covers About 15 by 13 Feet

IR Energy Authorized Dealer

IR Energy designs this size for an 8-foot mounting height, and that is also the minimum for every mWAVE. At that height it covers roughly a 15 by 13 foot area, the floor space receiving IR Energy's minimum comfort level of radiant heat. It is warmest directly underneath and tapers toward the edges. The brackets swivel, so you can aim it at a seating area: up to 67.5 degrees on a wall or 45 degrees on a ceiling. The IP65 housing is sealed against dust and water jets, so it is rated for covered or open outdoor spaces as well as indoors.

Best for One Seating Area, Not a Whole Open Patio

This is spot heat for one table, a pair of lounge chairs, a workbench or a reading corner. It also pairs well with a ductless mini-split: the mini-split handles the room air, and the mWAVE gives you warmth where you sit without changing the thermostat. If your ceiling is higher than 8 feet, or you want to cover a wider area, step up to the mWAVE 2500W.

Plan for a Hardwired Circuit, Not a Plug

Although it runs on 120 volts, the mWAVE does not plug into an outlet. An electrician wires it into its junction box on its own circuit, sized at 125% of the heater's current draw, so plan on a dedicated 20-amp circuit. Clearances to anything combustible depend on the mounting angle, so follow the installation manual for your setup. IR Energy builds the mWAVE in North America and covers its components for 12 months.

IR Energy mWAVE Smart 1500W 38-Inch Wall/Ceiling Mounted Infrared Heater FAQ's

How does the mWAVE heat a space?

It heats people and surfaces directly with infrared energy, the way sunlight warms your skin, rather than heating the air first. You feel it within seconds, and because it is not warming air, a breeze or an open door does not carry the heat away.

Can I plug the mWAVE Smart 1500W into a regular outlet?

No. It runs on 120 volts but has no plug. An electrician hardwires it to a dedicated circuit, sized at 125% of its current draw, which means a 20-amp circuit.

How high should I mount it, and how much area does it warm?

IR Energy designs this size for an 8-foot mounting height, which is also the minimum for the mWAVE. From there it warms roughly a 15 by 13 foot area, about 195 square feet, warmest directly below. For a higher ceiling, look at the mWAVE 2500W.

Can it be installed outdoors?

Yes. The housing is IP65 rated, sealed against dust and water jets, and IR Energy certifies the mWAVE for indoor and outdoor use, including patios, pergolas, balconies and poolside areas.

Can I leave it running, and does it shut itself off?

It has a built-in timer you can set for up to 9 hours from the remote or the app, and you can schedule it in the app. Running it at a lower heat level also extends the element's life, according to IR Energy.

What is the difference between the mWAVE Smart 1500W and the mWAVE 2500W?

The 1500W is the only mWAVE for a 120-volt circuit and is designed for an 8-foot height. The 2500W needs 208 or 240 volts and covers more area from 8 to 10 feet up. It also comes as a Pro version without Wi-Fi, for wiring to a wall switch or thermostat.
