IR Energy mWAVE Infrared Electric Heaters

IR Energy mWAVE heaters are hardwired medium-wave infrared panels that warm people and surfaces instead of the air, with a woven carbon element that glows softly rather than glaring. The series covers Smart models you run from an app, remote or voice assistant and Pro models that tie into a thermostat or building controls, sized for anything from a balcony to a tall courtyard.

IR Energy mWAVE Infrared Heaters for Patios and Interiors

The mWAVE series from IR Energy is a slim, hardwired infrared heater that mounts on a wall, under a ceiling or from chains. Rather than warming the air, which drifts off the moment a door opens or a breeze picks up, it sends medium-wave infrared straight to people and furniture, so you feel it within seconds of switching on. The woven carbon element gives off a low orange glow with less glare than a short-wave lamp, which matters when the heater hangs over a dining table or sits in your sightline all evening.

Smart or Pro: Pick How You Want to Run It

IR Energy mWAVE Smart medium wave infrared heater with Wi-Fi control

mWAVE Smart is made for spaces where the people using it want to adjust it. It joins the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, comes with a handheld remote, and answers to Alexa and Google Home. Five heat levels, a shutoff timer, schedules and multi-heater zones are all built in.

IR Energy mWAVE Pro medium wave infrared heater for wired controls

mWAVE Pro drops the Wi-Fi and remote and wires instead to a line-voltage thermostat, a timer switch, an occupancy sensor or a building management system. That suits restaurants, hotels and offices where the heat should follow a schedule rather than a remote. Without IR Energy's factory-supplied control, a Pro runs at full output.

Size It by Mounting Height, Not Square Footage

IR Energy mWAVE heater mounted under a condo balcony ceiling

An infrared heater is matched to how high it hangs. IR Energy designs each mWAVE size for its own mounting-height range: the smallest runs on a standard household circuit for low balcony ceilings and patio covers, while the larger single-element and two-element models need a higher-voltage circuit and are built to carry heat down from tall ceilings, vaulted rooms and courtyards. The product pages list the mounting height and coverage IR Energy designs each one for, and the swivel brackets aim the heat at the seating.

    One Heater, Indoors or Out

Each mWAVE housing is IP65 rated against dust and water jets and CSA certified for indoor and outdoor use. IR Energy rates the series at 90% radiant efficiency under AHRI 1330 testing. With no fan, it runs silently and stirs up no draft, which makes it as comfortable over an indoor pool, in a sunroom or above a home bar as it is on an open patio. Planning the Install

No mWAVE plugs in. Each one is hardwired by a licensed electrician on a dedicated circuit sized at 125% of the heater's draw, with clearances taken from the installation manual for the mounting angle you choose. IR Energy warrants mWAVE components for 12 months.

Frequently Asked Questions about IR Energy mWAVE Infrared Electric Heaters

How is a medium-wave heater different from a short-wave heater?

A medium-wave element such as the mWAVE's woven carbon glows a soft orange with less glare than a short-wave lamp, while still warming people and surfaces directly rather than the air. That lower glare makes it easier to live with over seating and in interiors.

What does mWAVE Smart do that mWAVE Pro does not?

Smart adds Wi-Fi control through the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, a handheld remote, five heat levels, a shutoff timer, schedules and Alexa or Google Home voice control. Pro has none of these and is wired to a thermostat, timer switch, occupancy sensor or building system instead.

Can I use an mWAVE heater indoors?

Yes. The mWAVE series is CSA certified for indoor and outdoor use, so it works in a sunroom, over an indoor pool or above a dining area as well as on a patio.

How high can an mWAVE heater be mounted?

IR Energy designs each size for its own range, from 8 feet for the 120-volt model up to 14 feet for the largest two-element model. Match the size to your ceiling height using the range on each product page.

Does an mWAVE heater need a dedicated circuit?

Yes. Every mWAVE is hardwired by a licensed electrician on its own circuit, sized at 125% of the heater's draw. None of the models plug into an outlet.

Will an mWAVE heater survive rain?

Yes. The housing is IP65 rated against dust and water jets, so it can stay mounted on an open patio, a pergola or a pool deck through the seasons.
