Description

Low-Glare Infrared Heat Sized for an Average Patio Ceiling

The IR Energy mWAVE 2500W is an electric infrared heater that mounts on a wall or ceiling, or hangs from chains, indoors or out. It warms people directly rather than the air, so it keeps working under a pergola or beside an open door where warm air would drift off. It is designed for the ceiling height most covered patios and garages have, and you choose between a Smart version you run from a remote or phone and a Pro version that wires to your own controls.

Built for Ceilings 8 to 10 Feet High

IR Energy matches each mWAVE size to a mounting height, and this one is designed for 8 to 10 feet. At 8 feet it covers roughly a 17 by 16 foot area, widening to about 18 by 17 feet at 10 feet. That is the floor space receiving IR Energy's minimum comfort level of radiant heat; it is warmest directly underneath.

Smart Runs From Your Phone, Pro Runs From Your Wall

IR Energy Authorized Dealer

The Smart version has Wi-Fi and a handheld remote built in. You get five heat levels, a timer of up to nine hours, schedules and grouping through the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, and Alexa or Google Home voice control. The Pro version has no Wi-Fi or remote. It is a few inches shorter and wires to a line-voltage thermostat (one rated for electric heaters, not a standard furnace thermostat), a wall timer switch, an occupancy sensor or a building automation system. Lower heat levels on a Pro need IR Energy's own factory control.

A Warm Orange Glow With Less Glare

A woven carbon element in a quartz tube produces medium-wave infrared. It still glows a warm orange, but with less glare than a short-wave heater and without harsh light or hot spots, so a dining area or lounge keeps its mood. IR Energy rates it at 90% radiant efficiency under AHRI 1330 testing, and the IP65 housing is sealed against dust and water jets.

Best for Covered Patios, Garages and Sunrooms

IR Energy recommends this size for covered patios, restaurant patios and residential garages. Pick Smart for a home where you want the remote and app. Pick Pro when the heater should switch on with the lights, a timer or a building system. In a room heated by a ductless mini-split, one 2500W Smart above the main seating area adds warmth where you sit without touching the mini-split's setting.

Choose 208 or 240 Volts Before You Order

Both voltages produce the same heat, so match the version to the power your electrician has available. Each heater needs its own hardwired circuit sized at 125% of its current draw, and mounts at least 8 feet above the floor. Clearances to combustibles depend on the mounting angle, so follow the installation manual. IR Energy builds the mWAVE in North America and covers its components for 12 months.

Features

  • Smart version: five heat levels from about a third of full output to 100%, a timer up to 9 hours, and an included remote with about 16 feet of range
  • Smart version: Tuya Smart and Smart Life app control with schedules and multi-heater zones, plus Alexa and Google Home voice control (needs 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi)
  • Pro version: no Wi-Fi or remote; switches with a line-voltage thermostat, wall timer, occupancy sensor or building automation system
  • Pro version: lower heat levels need IR Energy's factory-supplied control
  • Swivel brackets aim the heat: horizontal to 67.5° on a wall, 45° on a ceiling, 30° when chain-hung
  • Warmth is felt within seconds, with no fan noise and no air movement

IR Energy mWAVE 2500W Wall/Ceiling Mounted Medium Wave Electric Heater FAQ's

What is the difference between the mWAVE Smart and Pro?

Smart has Wi-Fi, an app and a remote built in, with five heat levels and a timer. Pro has none of that. It is wired to your own wall switch, thermostat, occupancy sensor or building automation system, and needs IR Energy's factory control to run below full output.

Should I choose 208V or 240V?

Match the power at your panel. Most homes have 240 volts; 208 volts is common in commercial buildings. Both versions produce the same heat, and your electrician can confirm which you have.

What size circuit does the mWAVE 2500W need?

Each heater needs its own hardwired circuit sized at 125% of its current draw. The 240V version draws 10.4 amps, so it needs at least a 15-amp circuit; the 208V version draws 12 amps and needs its own dedicated 208V circuit of at least 15 amps.

How high should I mount it, and how much area does it warm?

It is designed for 8 to 10 feet. At 8 feet it covers about 17 by 16 feet (roughly 270 square feet), and about 18 by 17 feet (roughly 305 square feet) at 10 feet. If your ceiling is 10 feet or higher, the mWAVE 3600W is the better fit.

Can I use a smart thermostat with the Pro version?

Only a line-voltage smart thermostat made for electric baseboard or radiant heaters. Never use a standard low-voltage (24V) furnace thermostat; IR Energy warns it will damage both the thermostat and the heater circuit.

What is the difference between the mWAVE 2500W and 3600W?

The 2500W is a single-element heater for 8 to 10 foot ceilings. The 3600W uses two elements in a longer housing, is designed for 9 to 13 feet, and warms a larger area, so it suits higher patio covers and bigger seating areas.
