The Lexington Hearth Horizon Non-Combustible is a wall-mounted cast mantel shelf with a slim 3-inch face, offered with a 4-inch or 6-inch projection in 60 and 84-inch lengths. It is the modern profile in the cast range, with no reproduced timber character at all.

Non-combustible is what lets a television go above the fireplace

Cast in Burncrete and certified to ASTM E136, the standard test at 750 degrees Celsius. In Lexington's words the non-combustible option "allows for closer placement to heat sources, making it an excellent choice for safely mounting a TV above the fireplace." A wood mantel sits at whatever clearance your fireplace manufacturer sets, and that clearance is often what pushes a television too high to watch. Your fireplace manual still governs the height.

Pick the projection first, then the length

The 4-inch projection reads almost as a line on the wall and suits a fireplace already busy with stone or tile. The 6-inch gives you a shelf you can put something on. The 3-inch face stays the same across both and across both lengths, so going longer makes the mantel look slimmer rather than heavier. Lexington notes that the concrete construction and coloring are what give it the modern read and emphasize the linear look.

It weighs 33 to 54 pounds at 60 inches and 47 to 75 pounds at 84 inches, depending on projection, so fix the bracket into framing

The bracket carries the whole weight, so it has to reach structural framing rather than drywall anchors. Bracket, hardware, touch-up kit and manual all ship with it.

Hand-painted, so no two are identical, and custom colors are available

Mystic Grey and Sahara Sand are the two standard colors. Lexington casts and paints each one by hand and states that there will be minor variances in color, weight and final dimensions. That is the nature of the product, not a defect. They will also produce custom colors and lengths on request, so contact us before ordering if the standard range does not suit. Order a Architect color sample first either way: what you pay for it is credited back when you buy the mantel.

Best for modern and minimalist rooms, and floating-shelf fireplace walls with a television above

The Horizon is the cast mantel for a room with no traditional detailing to answer to: a linear gas or electric firebox, a tiled or plastered chimney breast, a hearth below that already gives the wall a horizontal line. Being non-combustible and slim at once is an unusual combination, and it is the reason this profile gets specified above televisions.
