The Lexington Hearth Architect Collection Color Sample is a 4 by 4-inch piece cast from the same Burncrete as the full mantel and hand-painted in the same finish. Eight colors are offered: Mahogany, Walnut, Honey Oak, Mystic Grey, Sahara Sand, Luna, Avocado and Raven.

What you get, and how the cost comes back

One sample in the finish you choose, covering the non-combustible Architect mantels: Classic, Federal and Horizon. The palette spans wood tones and painted colors, which behave very differently on a wall, so this is the range where a sample earns its keep most. What you pay for it is credited back when you order the full mantel.

Best for choosing between a wood tone and a painted finish

Judging a hand-painted finish from a photograph is the single most common reason a mantel gets returned, and a mantel is the one product where that is expensive to get wrong. Order the sample, put it on the wall beside the fireplace, and look at it in daylight and with the lamps on. Browse the Architect mantels while you wait.
