Description

A 40-inch wood-fired grill and griddle with a spun stainless steel fire bowl, at standing cooking height on a tall storage base. A center grill grate over the fire sears, and the ½-inch steel cooktop around it gives 1,250+ sq in of flat cooking space for eight or more. Unlike Arteflame's Corten models, the stainless bowl keeps a bright, modern finish and never forms a patina.

The stainless bowl stays bright, while the cooktop cooks exactly like the Classic

The difference from the Classic 40 is the fire bowl: spun stainless steel instead of weathering Corten. The cooktop is the same ½-inch plate of hot-rolled steel, so it seasons and cooks the same way. That steel cooktop is not stainless; it darkens as it builds its seasoning.

Sear over a 1,000°F+ grate while the ring around it griddles

Arteflame measured about 450 to 550°F near the inner edge of the cooktop and 250 to 350°F toward the rim, so steaks sear in the center while eggs, fish and vegetables cook on the ring and finished food stays warm at the edge. Grease lands on steel, not in the fire, so the griddle has no flare-ups.

Best for a modern patio where a weathered finish would look out of place

Arteflame Authorized Dealer

The storage base comes in stainless steel, black or red, with room inside for firewood or tools. If you prefer the other base, see the Stainless Steel Grill with Euro Base. If the rust-colored Corten look suits your space, the Classic 40 Grill and Griddle with Storage Base cooks the same way.

Before you order: freight delivery, seasoning and a 30 to 45 minute warm-up

It ships freight and is heavy, so plan for help placing it on pavers, concrete or gravel rather than a wood deck. Season the cooktop with the included puck, give it 30 to 45 minutes to heat through, and lift the cooktop off after dinner to use it as a fire pit.

Optional Accessories: Arteflame Pizza Oven Kit, Arteflame Center Grill Grate (replacement)

Arteflame 40-Inch Stainless Steel Grill and Griddle with Storage Base FAQ's

What is the difference between the Classic and Stainless Steel Arteflame grills?

The fire bowl. The Classic uses a 10-gauge Corten steel bowl that weathers to a rust-colored patina; the Stainless uses a spun stainless steel bowl that keeps its bright finish. Both use the same ½-inch hot-rolled steel cooktop, the same center grill grate and the same 40-inch cooking height, so they cook the same way. The Stainless sits at a higher price.

How hot does the Arteflame cooktop get?

The center grill grate sits directly over the fire and passes 1,000°F, which is where you sear. On a 40-inch cooktop Arteflame measured about 450 to 550°F near the inner edge and 250 to 350°F toward the outer rim, so you can sear, cook and keep food warm at the same time. Give the steel 30 to 45 minutes to heat through before you start cooking.

Will the stainless steel Arteflame rust?

The fire bowl is stainless and keeps its bright finish. The cooktop is hot-rolled steel, not stainless, so it needs the same care as cast iron: keep it seasoned and lightly oiled after each cook, and it builds a dark, low-stick patina that protects it.

What comes in the 2 Accessories and 5 Accessories bundles?

2 Accessories adds the center grill grate and a seasoning puck, which is everything you need to cook. 5 Accessories adds a side warming table, a wood cutting and serving board and an Italian leather apron.

Can an Arteflame 40-inch be converted to gas?

Yes, by a professional installer. The center hole in the 40-inch fire bowl is sized for a 1-inch gas pipe. Conversion parts are not included, so plan for an installer and a gas line run to the spot.

Can you burn charcoal in an Arteflame instead of wood?

Yes. Arteflame rates it for seasoned hardwood or lump charcoal. Wood gives you a bigger flame and more of a fire pit feel; lump charcoal gives steadier heat for longer cooks.
