    What Is a Majestic Mantel?

Majestic mantels are wood mantel surrounds and shelves built to be customized rather than bought pre-finished. Every model in this collection is available in primed MDF, ready to paint any color, and select models also come in unfinished maple, ready to stain. This collection includes transitional, traditional, and rustic styles, each made to order.

Mantel Surrounds vs. Flush Mantel Shelves

Majestic offers two different structures within this collection:

    • Full mantel surrounds, including the Kenwood, Richland, Merritt, Roxborough, and Wescott, include a top assembly plus left and right leg assemblies with moldings, framing the sides of the firebox as well as the top.
    • Flush mantel shelves, including the Baxter and Crosby, mount directly to the wall with a shelf assembly and ledger board, without legs framing the sides.

Both structures ship with a hardware kit and installation manual.

Primed MDF vs. Unfinished Maple: Choosing Your Finish

Every Majestic mantel is available in primed MDF, a blank canvas ready to paint in any color to match or contrast with your room. The Kenwood, Baxter, and Crosby are also available in unfinished maple, a solid wood option you can stain to your preferred shade for a natural wood grain look. Unfinished maple costs more than primed MDF on the same model, reflecting the added material cost of solid wood.

Style Options: Transitional, Traditional, and Rustic

Most of this collection, the Kenwood, Richland, Merritt, Roxborough, and Wescott, are built in a transitional style designed to bridge modern and traditional interiors. The Crosby leans more traditional, with classic lines suited to formal living and dining rooms. The Baxter is styled more rustic, with a profile suited to farmhouse and country-cottage interiors. All are intended for indoor use.

    Lead Time and Installation

Majestic mantels are made to order with a manufacturing lead time of 4 to 6 weeks, and ship via freight due to their size. Each arrives with the full hardware kit and a user's manual. Flush shelf-style mantels (Baxter, Crosby) are generally easier for one person to mount. Full surrounds with attached legs (Kenwood, Richland, Merritt, Roxborough, Wescott) are bulkier to maneuver during installation, so a second set of hands is worth having on hand.
