The Lexington Hearth Farmhouse is a wall-mounted, non-combustible cast mantel shelf with a 10 by 10-inch end profile, made in 72 and 84-inch lengths. It is the largest and heaviest mantel in the Lexington range, and in their own words it "demands your attention when you enter a room."

Non-combustible is what lets a television go above the fireplace

Cast in Burncrete and certified to ASTM E136, the standard test at 750 degrees Celsius. In Lexington's words the non-combustible option "allows for closer placement to heat sources, making it an excellent choice for safely mounting a TV above the fireplace." A wood mantel sits at whatever clearance your fireplace manufacturer sets, and that clearance is often what pushes a television too high to watch. Your fireplace manual still governs the height.

It ships with a heavier bracket than the rest of the range

At 205 and 235 pounds this mantel needed its own mounting hardware, and Lexington made a super-heavy-duty bracket specifically for it. That is worth knowing before you plan the install: this is not a two-person lift onto ordinary fixings. The wall has to carry a quarter of a ton hung off a bracket, so the fixing has to reach solid structure, and on a stud wall that means locating and hitting real framing rather than trusting an anchor.

The bracket carries the whole weight, so it has to reach structural framing rather than drywall anchors. Bracket, hardware, touch-up kit and manual all ship with it. Lexington supplies a heavier bracket for this model than for the rest of the range.

Hand-painted, so no two are identical, and custom colors are available

It is offered in five standard colors. Lexington casts and paints each one by hand and states that there will be minor variances in color, weight and final dimensions. That is the nature of the product, not a defect. They will also produce custom colors and lengths on request, so contact us before ordering if the standard range does not suit. Order a Bluegrass color sample first either way: what you pay for it is credited back when you buy the mantel.

Best for large rooms, tall fireplace walls, and commercial spaces

The Farmhouse is specified where a normal mantel would disappear: double-height rooms, floor-to-ceiling stone, wide masonry openings, and the lodge and hospitality projects Lexington names as commercial applications. A 10-inch square section at 84 inches long is a genuine structural presence, and it will overwhelm an ordinary living room. If the wall is big but the budget for installation is not, the Rickhouse gives similar character at roughly half the weight.
