Description

A Glowing Log Fire for a Small Masonry Fireplace

The Napoleon Woodland 18 is an electric log set: a hand-painted resin log set on a glowing ember bed that sits in your existing fireplace the way a grate of wood would. The brick and the hearth stay in view, and the fire becomes something you switch on. At 18 inches wide, it is the smallest Woodland, made for compact masonry openings.

It Needs a Fireplace Opening at Least 14 Inches Tall

Napoleon lists the smallest fireplace the Woodland 18 can go into: 14 inches tall, 18 inches wide (Napoleon lists 472 mm) and 14 inches deep. Do not install it in anything smaller. Set it about 2 inches from the back wall, because that is where the flame effect shows best.

It plugs into a grounded 120-volt outlet on a dedicated 15-amp circuit, or an electrician can hardwire it if you would rather hide the cord. Napoleon does not allow an extension cord.

A 1,500-Watt Heater with a Blower and Thermostat

The heater puts out about 5,000 BTU, and Napoleon rates it for rooms up to 400 square feet. A blower pushes the warm air out into the room. The thermostat has six settings from 61 to 85°F, and a timer shuts it off after 30 minutes to 6 hours. You can also run the flame on its own with no heat at all.

Five Flame and Ember Settings on the Remote

The remote runs everything: ember glow only, three levels of flame brightness, or all off. The logs are resin, hand-painted to look like wood, and the ember bed underneath is lit by LEDs so it glows like a fire that has burned down.

Best for Smaller Fireplaces You Want to Keep Looking Original

Pick the 18 if your fireplace opening is narrow, or if a bigger set would crowd the firebox. It suits someone who likes their fireplace as it is and only wants to stop burning wood in it. If the brick is stained or cracked, a firebox insert, which covers the opening with its own glass front, may be the better fit. See our electric fireplace inserts for those.

Seal the Chimney and Leave the Doors Open

Before you install, Napoleon says to seal chimney drafts with a non-combustible material and cap the top of the flue, so debris and rain stay out. If your fireplace has glass doors, do not close them over the log set: the heater needs somewhere to send the heat. A screen is fine. The Woodland is for indoor use only.

Optional Accessories: fireplace mantels to finish the wall.

Napoleon Woodland 18-Inch Electric Log Set - Fireplace Insert (NEFI18H) FAQ's

What size fireplace does the Napoleon Woodland 18 fit?

Napoleon lists a minimum fireplace opening 14 inches tall, 18 inches wide (Napoleon lists 472 mm) and 14 inches deep. Measure at the narrowest point, because many masonry fireboxes taper toward the back.

Can I plug the Woodland log set into a regular outlet?

Yes. It runs on a grounded 120-volt outlet, and Napoleon calls for a dedicated 15-amp circuit. Extension cords are not allowed. If you would rather hide the cord, an electrician can hardwire it.

How much heat does the Woodland 18 put out?

About 5,000 BTU from a 1,500-watt heater with a blower. Napoleon rates it for rooms up to 400 square feet, and the thermostat holds anywhere from 61 to 85°F.

Can I keep my fireplace glass doors closed with the Woodland inside?

No. Napoleon says not to use fireplace doors that close or seal off the log set, because the heat has to escape. Leave the doors open, or use a screen instead.

Do I need to do anything to the chimney before installing it?

Yes. Napoleon says to seal chimney drafts with a non-combustible material so debris can't fall onto the logs, and to cap the top of the flue to keep rain out. Clean out the firebox before you set the logs in.

Should I buy an electric log set or a firebox insert?

Choose a log set if you like your fireplace and want it on show, since only the fire changes. Choose a firebox insert if the brick is stained, cracked or drafty, because its own glass front covers the old opening.
