Recess a Sideline Elite Pro Into a 2x4 Wall, or Finish Its Sides on a Wall Mount

The Touchstone spacer kit is a set of black brackets made for one fireplace, the Touchstone Sideline Elite Pro. It does two jobs. In a 2x4 wall, it lets the fireplace sit partly recessed without deepening the wall. On a wall-mounted fireplace, its side and top brackets cover the bare sides of the firebox for a finished edge.

A 2x4 Wall Is Too Shallow for a Full Recess, and the Kit Covers the Gap

A full recess needs an opening 6 3/8 inches deep. A 2x4 wall with drywall is about 4 inches, so the fireplace stands out from the wall. The kit's brackets close the gap at the sides and top, so it looks finished rather than half installed. Where you can build a bump-out deep enough for a full recess, Touchstone recommends that instead.

Order the Kit That Matches Your Fireplace Width

Each kit is sized to one Sideline Elite Pro width, so order the same size as your fireplace. Touchstone does not make one for the 36 inch model, and the kit fits no other Touchstone fireplace, including the standard Sideline Elite.

It Installs With a Phillips Screwdriver

The side and top brackets screw onto the fireplace itself. For a 2x4 install, the two side mounting pieces go into the framed opening first, 5 1/16 inches up from its bottom. Their flanges line up with the finished wall. The fireplace then slides in and fastens to them through its sides.

Framing now? Order the kit with the fireplace. The side mounting pieces go into the opening before the fireplace does, so having both on site saves a second trip.
