A Modern Burner Set With Cannonballs
The Majestic Contemporary Burner with cannonballs is a vented gas burner that turns a wood-burning fireplace into a sculptural, modern gas fire you start from a remote. Instead of logs, the burner is set with smooth cannonballs over a lava rock bed, the flame rises between them, and the chimney still carries the exhaust away. It comes in a 24-inch and a 30-inch size, for natural gas or propane.
The Remote Lights It, and Batteries Run It
The Contemporary burner uses Majestic's IntelliFire intermittent pilot ignition, which lights the pilot only when you turn the fire on instead of burning it all day. A battery pack holding two D batteries powers it, so it needs no outlet and keeps working in a power outage. An on/off switch on the front of the burner and an included RCB on/off remote both turn the fire on and off. A thermostat cannot be used with a vented burner.

Round Shapes for a Geometric Fire
The cannonball sets pair large and small spheres: the 24-inch set has 8 large and 3 small cannonballs with 2 bags of lava rock, and the 30-inch set has 10 large and 4 small with 3 bags of lava rock. Majestic says to use only the lava rock that comes with the cannonballs, never fire glass, under them. The flame moves around the round shapes, which gives the fire a clean, gallery-like look. Pick cannonballs if you want a modern fire that reads as bold rather than sparkly.
The Cannonball Set Is Sold Separately
This page is for the burner. The cannonball set is a separate product sized to each burner, and the burner needs its media in place to run, so choose the set in the same size as the burner. Lava rock for the base of the burner bed is already in the box.
Bought for the Fire, With Some Heat on the Side
The burner is rated at 65,000 BTU on natural gas and 52,000 BTU on propane in the 24-inch size, and 68,000 BTU on natural gas and 60,000 BTU on propane in the 30-inch. That is the gas it burns, not the heat that reaches the room: because the exhaust rises up the chimney, much of the heat goes with it, and Majestic lists it as a decorative or supplemental appliance, not a primary heat source. If warming the room is the goal, a vent-free insert or a direct vent insert keeps far more of it inside.
Measure the Firebox and Match the Gas Before You Order
Majestic certifies the Contemporary burner only for a solid-fuel burning masonry fireplace or a UL127 factory-built wood-burning fireplace, and the damper stays open whenever the fire is on. A damper clamp in the box keeps it from closing fully. The 24-inch burner needs a firebox at least 30 inches wide at the front, 20 inches at the back, 23 inches deep and 15 inches tall; the 30-inch needs 36 inches at the front, 20 at the back, 29 deep and 15 tall. Order the gas your home has, keep curtains, furniture and anything flammable at least 36 inches from the front, keep any glass doors fully open while it runs, and avoid a high-traffic, windy or drafty spot. Have the chimney professionally cleaned first. A qualified gas installer should connect it with the included flex line, secure the burner to the fireplace floor and set the damper clamp. On first use, Majestic has you run it on high for three to four hours with the windows open to cure the finish, which can give off some odor.
Optional Accessories
A freestanding screen in front of the opening adds a barrier while the fire runs. See the Modern Blaze Curved Steel Fireplace Screen and the Modern Blaze 3-Panel Steel Fireplace Screen.
