Description

Two-Element Infrared Heat for Higher Patio Covers

The IR Energy mWAVE 3600W is a two-element electric infrared heater for walls, ceilings or chain mounting, indoors or out. Like the rest of the series it warms people directly instead of the air, but the longer housing and second element let it reach a seating area from a higher ceiling. It suits tall pergolas, restaurant patios, workshops and showrooms, in a Smart version you run from your phone or a Pro version that wires to your own controls.

Designed for Ceilings 9 to 13 Feet High

IR Energy designs this size for 9 to 13 feet. At 9 feet it covers roughly a 19 by 18 foot area, growing to about 22 by 22 feet at 13 feet. That is the floor space receiving IR Energy's minimum comfort level of radiant heat; it is warmest directly beneath. Mounted lower, it gets more intense right underneath, so below 9 feet the mWAVE 2500W is usually the more comfortable choice.

Smart Runs From Your Phone, Pro Runs From Your Wall

IR Energy Authorized Dealer

Smart has Wi-Fi and a remote built in: five heat levels, a timer of up to nine hours, schedules and zones in the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, and Alexa or Google Home voice control. Pro has no Wi-Fi or remote and is a few inches shorter. It wires to a line-voltage thermostat, a wall timer, an occupancy sensor or a building automation system, which suits a restaurant or workshop where the heaters should run on a schedule. Lower heat levels on a Pro need IR Energy's factory control.

More Heat Without More Glare

The woven carbon elements produce medium-wave infrared: a warm orange glow with less glare than short-wave and without harsh light or hot spots, so a dining room or bar keeps its lighting. IR Energy rates it at 90% radiant efficiency under AHRI 1330 testing, and the IP65 housing is sealed against dust and water jets.

Best for Restaurant Patios, Workshops and Showrooms

IR Energy recommends this size for covered patios, workshops and studios, and retail spaces with 10 to 12 foot ceilings. For a long seating area, several 3600W heaters can be grouped in the app or wired together to one control, as long as that control is rated for the total load.

Wire Each Heater to Its Own Circuit

Both voltages produce the same heat. Each heater needs a dedicated hardwired circuit sized at 125% of its current draw, which on 240 volts means a 20-amp circuit. The mWAVE mounts at least 8 feet up, and clearances depend on the angle, so follow the installation manual. For a chain-hung heater, the chains and anchors must be rated for its weight. IR Energy builds the mWAVE in North America and covers its components for 12 months.

Features

  • Two heating elements in one housing, for a wider warm zone from a higher mounting point
  • Smart version: five heat levels from about a third of full output to 100%, a shutoff timer up to 9 hours, and a handheld remote that works from about 16 feet
  • Smart version: run it from the Tuya Smart or Smart Life app, set schedules, group several heaters into zones, or use Alexa and Google Home (2.4 GHz Wi-Fi required)
  • Pro version: no Wi-Fi or remote; wire it to a line-voltage thermostat, timer switch, occupancy sensor or building automation system
  • Pro version: reduced heat levels need IR Energy's factory-supplied control
  • Brackets swivel to aim the heat at a seating area: up to 67.5° on a wall, 45° on a ceiling, 30° on chains
  • Heat you feel within seconds, silently, with no fan blowing air around the room

IR Energy mWAVE 3600W Wall/Ceiling Mounted Medium Wave Electric Heater FAQ's

What is the difference between the Smart and Pro mWAVE 3600W?

Smart is the one you control yourself: Wi-Fi, an app, a remote, five heat levels and a timer. Pro has no built-in controls and is wired to a wall switch, thermostat, occupancy sensor or building system, which suits restaurants and workshops that run heaters on a schedule.

How high should I mount the mWAVE 3600W, and how much area does it warm?

It is designed for 9 to 13 feet: about 19 by 18 feet (roughly 340 square feet) at 9 feet, and about 22 by 22 feet (roughly 485 square feet) at 13 feet. Below 9 feet the heat gets intense directly underneath, so the 2500W is usually better there.

What size circuit does it need?

A dedicated hardwired circuit sized at 125% of its draw. On 240 volts that is a 20-amp circuit; the 208V version needs its own dedicated 208V circuit.

Can several mWAVE heaters run together?

Yes. Smart heaters can be grouped into zones in the app. Pro heaters can be wired to one thermostat, provided the thermostat's rating covers the combined load (IR Energy suggests no more than 30 amps per thermostat). Above that, use a relay or contactor.

Can it be installed outdoors?

Yes. The IP65 housing is sealed against dust and water jets, and IR Energy certifies the mWAVE for indoor and outdoor use.

What is the difference between the mWAVE 3600W and 5000W?

Both use two elements and the same housing. The 5000W is designed for 10 to 14 foot ceilings and covers more floor space, while the 3600W suits 9 to 13 feet. The 5000W also needs a larger circuit on 240 volts.
