Lexington Hearth Horizon Contemporary Wood Mantel Shelf

A 3-inch face, with a 4 or 6-inch projection you choose

The Lexington Hearth Horizon is a wall-mounted mantel shelf made from composite wood veneer, with a slim 3-inch face. It is the only mantel in this range where you choose how far it stands off the wall. A 4-inch or 6-inch projection, in three lengths, gives you six combinations of the same clean linear profile. It is not solid lumber, which is why it costs a fraction of a cast mantel the same size.

Pick the projection first, then the length

The 4-inch projection reads almost as a line on the wall and suits a minimalist room or a fireplace that is already busy with stone or tile. The 6-inch gives you a shelf you can put something on. Lengths are 60, 72 and 84 inches, and the 3-inch face stays the same across all of them, so going longer makes the mantel look thinner rather than heavier. Measure your firebox opening, add the reveal you want on each side, and choose the length from that.

It weighs 10 to 20 pounds depending on the combination you choose

At 60 inches it is 10 pounds with the 4-inch projection and 14 with the 6-inch. At 72 inches, 12 and 17 pounds. At 84 inches, 14 and 20. Even the heaviest combination is a comfortable two-person install, and the mounting bracket and six fasteners come in the box. The bracket has to land on framing rather than on drywall anchors alone.

It is combustible, so your fireplace manual sets the height, not the mantel

Composite wood veneer is combustible, the same as solid wood. Find the mantel clearance in your fireplace manual before you measure anything. Best for modern and minimalist rooms, and for floating-shelf fireplace walls

The Horizon is the contemporary profile in this range. It has no molding and no period reference, so it works above a linear electric or gas firebox, on a tiled or plastered fireplace wall, and in rooms where every other mantel here would look like ornament. Its slim face also makes it the right choice when a hearth below the firebox already gives the wall a horizontal line and you want the mantel to echo it rather than compete. If your room has traditional trim, the Classic beam is a gentler step and the Cumberland carries real molding.
