The Lexington Hearth Woodford is a wall-mounted mantel shelf made from composite wood veneer, with symmetrical lines, layered moldings and graceful curves. It is not solid lumber, which is why it costs a fraction of a cast or hardwood mantel of the same size, and it carries the same milled detail on every exposed edge. It is the deepest and heaviest wood mantel Lexington makes, and both of those are the point rather than a side effect.

It is combustible, so your fireplace manual sets the height, not the mantel

Composite wood veneer is combustible, the same as solid wood. Find the mantel clearance in your fireplace manual before you measure anything. Best for large fireplaces, tall walls and mantels you actually intend to decorate

Ten inches of depth is what separates a shelf you can style from a shelf that holds a photograph and nothing else. The Woodford takes stacked books, a leaning mirror, a full garland, or a row of candlesticks with clearance to spare, and its layered moldings hold their own against a floor-to-ceiling stone or brick surround that would swallow a slimmer profile. It is also the heaviest of the line at 26 to 40 pounds, so plan on two people and a bracket fixed into framing. On a small fireplace in a modest room it will overwhelm the wall, and the Pendleton is the better scale.
