The Modern Flames Orion Traditional is a built-in or insert electric fireplace designed for new framing or existing fireplace openings. It combines classic fireplace proportions with HELIOVISION™ virtual flame technology, giving you a more realistic traditional fireplace look without gas lines, venting, or chimney work.

The Orion Traditional brings classic fireplace design into the digital era. Designed for built-in installations or retrofit projects, it offers the look of a traditional hearth without the complexity of wood or gas. Version 2 builds on that foundation with improved realism, smarter controls, and a more immersive overall experience.

Realistic HELIOVISION™ Flame Technology

Powered by HELIOVISION™ flame technology, the Orion Traditional produces multi-dimensional flames with more depth than a standard 2D electric fireplace. With multiple flame patterns, color options, and adjustable speed, you can tailor the fire to suit your space and mood.

The included log set, crushed glass media, ember bed lighting, and downlighting help create a layered fireplace presentation that feels more substantial and refined in the room.

Easy to Install in New or Existing Fireplace Openings

The Orion Traditional installs as a built-in unit in new construction or as an insert into an existing fireplace opening. A 1.3-inch built-in trim helps conceal gaps between the unit and the wall for a cleaner finished look.

It operates vent-free and can be plugged in or hardwired, depending on the project. Hardwired installations require a dedicated circuit and a dedicated 20 Amp breaker. Optional surrounds are available for retrofitting into older masonry openings.

Fireplace Controls & Features

Control the fireplace using the Modern Flames app, included remote, or integrated touch controls on the unit.

Choose from 18 flame display combinations, including three flame patterns, six flame color options, and adjustable flame speed. A multicolor ember bed and multicolor downlighting enhance visual depth, while ambient crackling sounds add to the fireplace experience.

The built-in thermostat, two heat levels, and programmable timer add everyday convenience. Flames can also be enjoyed with or without heat, making the Orion Traditional a flexible year-round fireplace feature.

Optional Accessories and Surround Trim

Optional surround trim kits are available for select models, offering extra-wide coverage for insert installations and accommodating a variety of hearth configurations. Each trim kit includes a bottom riser for installations with low-clearance hearths.

If you want a more upgraded fireplace presentation for V1, optional TruWood logs are also available.

Orion V1 vs. Orion V2: What Changed?

Version 1 and Version 2 of the Modern Flames Orion Traditional share the same core platform, including HELIOVISION™ flame technology, traditional fireplace styling, and flexible built-in or insert installation. Version 2 is not a full redesign, but a meaningful upgrade focused on realism, customization, and overall user experience.

The biggest differences are in flame presentation, controls, and overall immersion. V2 improves display quality for a more dimensional look, adds the new Modern Flames+ app with over-the-air flame updates, upgrades the media presentation with a TruWood™ lit log set and active ember bed, and enhances the audio experience with more immersive sound and Bluetooth streaming.
