Liquid Bio-Ethanol Burns Clean, So There Is Nothing to Vent

You pour fuel into the burner, light it, and the vapor burns. Bio-ethanol made for fireplaces burns without smoke, soot or ash, which is why the Lexington needs no chimney and leaves nothing to clean up. Expect a low blue flame for the first few minutes; it builds into orange, dancing flames once the burner warms. To put it out, you set the included snuffer handle over the burner opening, which cuts off the air.

Use only liquid bio-ethanol made specifically for ventless fireplaces. Anywhere Fireplace warns that common rubbing or denatured alcohol from a drugstore or hardware store can give off emissions that aren't safe to breathe, indoors or out.

Fill It Away From the Table and Let It Cool Between Fills

Fuel is not included, so order it with the fireplace. Fill the burner on a counter or tray rather than on your finished dining table: spilled ethanol can damage stained or painted surfaces, and Anywhere Fireplace says to wipe up any spill before lighting. Fill until you can see fuel just above the perforated holes inside the burner, and no higher. Cap the bottle and move it away before you light, using a long wand lighter or long match.

Two habits matter most. Keep anything flammable at least 4 feet from the flame, which on a dining table means napkins, menus and centerpiece greenery. And never refill or move it while it's lit or hot: the flame can be nearly invisible just before the fuel runs out, so snuff it, wait at least 15 minutes for the burner to cool, then refill.
