The Lexington Hearth Rockface is a wall-mounted, non-combustible cast mantel shelf that reproduces stone rather than wood. Its cross-section is 8 inches deep by 4.75 inches high, and the rough chiseled front edge is speckled with mica that catches the light.

Non-combustible is what lets a television go above the fireplace

Cast in Burncrete and certified to ASTM E136, the standard test at 750 degrees Celsius. In Lexington's words the non-combustible option "allows for closer placement to heat sources, making it an excellent choice for safely mounting a TV above the fireplace." A wood mantel sits at whatever clearance your fireplace manufacturer sets, and that clearance is often what pushes a television too high to watch. Your fireplace manual still governs the height.

It is the only mantel here that is not pretending to be a beam

Every other cast profile in this range reproduces timber. The Rockface reproduces dressed stone, which changes what it belongs with: it suits a stone or rendered surround where a timber mantel would introduce a second material, and it works in rooms that have no wood detailing to answer to. The mica flecking is the detail to look at on a sample, because it reads as sparkle in direct light and disappears in flat light.

The bracket carries the whole weight, so it has to reach structural framing rather than drywall anchors. Bracket, hardware, touch-up kit and manual all ship with it.

Hand-painted, so no two are identical, and custom colors are available

Bluegrass Fog and Turfway Tan are the two standard colors. Lexington casts and paints each one by hand and states that there will be minor variances in color, weight and final dimensions. That is the nature of the product, not a defect. They will also produce custom colors and lengths on request, so contact us before ordering if the standard range does not suit. Best for stone and rendered fireplace surrounds, and rooms with no timber to match

The Rockface is the answer when the fireplace is already stone and you want the mantel to belong to it rather than contrast with it. Its two colors are pale and warm-neutral, both chosen to sit beside natural stone rather than against it.
