Description

A 48-Inch Fire Bowl That Hides the Propane Tank in Its Base

The American Fyre Designs 48-inch Chat is a free-standing round gas fire bowl cast in glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC), with a flat ledge running around the fire opening so it doubles as a place to set down a drink. It runs on natural gas or propane, comes in seven finishes, and includes a flush GFRC lid for the burner opening.

The Ledge Works Like a Table Around the Fire

The flat rim around the opening is wide enough for plates and drinks, so a seating group can eat around it without side tables.

A Flush GFRC Lid Covers the Burner When the Fire Is Off

American Fyre Designs Authorized Dealer

The lid sits flush in the opening, so when the fire is off the bowl reads as a solid piece and the burner stays covered from leaves and debris.

FyreStarter Adds Phone Control but Needs an Outlet at the Bowl

Manual models use a flame sensing valve that now includes a spark igniter, so you light them at the unit without a match. FyreStarter models light and adjust from a phone over Bluetooth, carry A and C USB ports, and need 120-volt AC power at the unit, so plan an outdoor outlet before it arrives.

Best for a Large Seating Group That Wants Propane Without a Visible Tank

The wide ledge works like a table for a full seating group, and on propane models the tank drawer means no separate tank table. AFD's manual calls for at least 3 feet from the edge of the unit to any construction at the sides and 6 feet from the top to anything overhead.

Plan the Gas Supply, Media and Cover Before It Ships

Propane models have a drawer in the base that holds a horizontal 20 lb DOT cylinder, not included. AFD notes 11 lb low-profile tanks do not fit and recommends the Manchester 10487TC 20 lb horizontal tank. Natural gas models connect to a gas line; check local codes before installing.

Fire media is sold separately: AFD calls for 15 lbs of lava granules or coals, or 20 lbs of fire glass. AFD says not to run it in heavy rain, which can make it cycle on and off, or in high wind, which can push the flame onto the concrete and crack or discolor the finish. The fitted 8135A cover is on our Vinyl Cover for Firetables page. It is made to order, with a 4-6 week lead time before it ships.

Optional Accessories: American Fyre Designs Lava Rocks, Vinyl Cover for Firetables

WARNING: For outdoor use only. Carbon monoxide poisoning may lead to death. Do not modify this unit or its controls except as provided for in the American Fyre Designs manual. Improper installation or use can cause serious injury or death from fire, burns, explosion or carbon monoxide poisoning.

American Fyre Designs Chat 48-Inch Free-Standing Round GFRC Gas Fire Bowl FAQ's

Where does the propane tank go on the 48-inch Chat fire bowl?

LP models have a drawer under the bowl for a horizontal 20 lb DOT cylinder, not included. AFD says 11 lb low-profile tanks do not fit and recommends the Manchester 10487TC.

How much clearance does the 48-inch Chat need?

AFD's manual calls for at least 3 feet from the edge of the unit to any construction at the sides and 6 feet from the top to anything overhead. It suits an open patio or a tall pergola rather than a low covered porch.

What is the difference between manual and FyreStarter models?

AFD rates the manual model at 60,000 BTU and the FyreStarter model at 65,000 BTU. FyreStarter adds Bluetooth control from a phone and needs 120-volt power at the bowl.

How do you light the Chat fire bowl?

Manual models use a flame sensing valve that now includes a spark igniter, so you light them at the unit without a match. FyreStarter models light from a phone over Bluetooth and need 120-volt power at the bowl. AFD says to always light it on the high setting.

Can the Chat fire bowl be used in rain or wind?

It is built for outdoor use, but AFD says not to run it in heavy rain, which can make it cycle on and off, or in high wind, which can push the flame onto the concrete and crack or discolor the finish. Keep the flush lid on, or use a fitted vinyl cover, when it is not running.

What fire media does the Chat fire bowl need?

Media is sold separately. AFD calls for 15 lbs of lava granules or coals, or 20 lbs of fire glass.
