Lexington Hearth Rickhouse Concrete Faux Wood Mantel Shelf

The Lexington Hearth Rickhouse is a wall-mounted, non-combustible cast mantel shelf, 7.75 inches deep, made to look like a salvaged old-growth barrel-house timber. Lexington molded it directly from a 7.5 by 7.5-inch beam, so the bark-edge waning, the mortice and tenon joinery, the deep checking, the knots and the saw and tooling marks are one specific timber's, reproduced rather than designed.

Non-combustible is what lets a television go above the fireplace

Cast in Burncrete and certified to ASTM E136, the standard test at 750 degrees Celsius. In Lexington's words the non-combustible option "allows for closer placement to heat sources, making it an excellent choice for safely mounting a TV above the fireplace." A wood mantel sits at whatever clearance your fireplace manufacturer sets, and that clearance is often what pushes a television too high to watch. Your fireplace manual still governs the height.

The joinery is the detail that sells it

Most faux timber mantels reproduce grain and checking. The Rickhouse also carries the empty mortice pockets and tenon ends where the beam was once framed into a building, which is the detail people look for when they want a mantel to read as salvaged rather than styled. Bark-edge waning along one arris does the same job: a milled beam has four square edges, and a reclaimed one does not.

It weighs 106 pounds at 60 inches and 141 pounds at 72 inches, so fix the bracket into framing

The bracket carries the whole weight, so it has to reach structural framing rather than drywall anchors. Bracket, hardware, touch-up kit and manual all ship with it.

Hand-painted, so no two are identical, and custom colors are available

Maduro, Pale Honey and Weathered Grey are the standard colors we carry. Lexington casts and paints each one by hand and states that there will be minor variances in color, weight and final dimensions. That is the nature of the product, not a defect. They will also produce custom colors and lengths on request, so contact us before ordering if the standard range does not suit. Order a Bluegrass color sample first either way: what you pay for it is credited back when you buy the mantel.

Best for rickhouse and distillery interiors, and for any room built around reclaimed timber

The Rickhouse suits a room that already has exposed beams, barn siding or brick, where a clean-faced mantel would look like the newest thing in it. At 7.75 inches deep it holds decor with clearance to spare. It is also the heaviest mantel in its length class, so on a stud wall rather than masonry, check your framing before you order. For the same character in a lighter, shallower profile, the Tobacco Barn is the closest alternative.
