Description

A Freestanding Outdoor Fireplace That Gives a Patio a Five-Foot Focal Wall

The American Fyre Designs Milan Tall is a freestanding outdoor gas fireplace cast in glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC), 72 inches wide and 60 inches tall, with a 48-inch stainless steel linear burner set behind a glass wind guard. It stands on its own with no surround to build, runs on natural gas or propane, and comes in seven finishes.

It Ships With the Glass Wind Guard and Enough Lava Media to Light It

AFD includes a two-piece glass wind guard that mounts in front of the burner, and the lava granules it supplies cover both the required base layer and the primary layer, so the fireplace is complete out of the crate. If you prefer the look of fire glass, AFD calls for 35 lbs in place of the granules.

Seven GFRC Finishes, Three of Them With an Antique Texture

American Fyre Designs Authorized Dealer

The body is cast in glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) in your choice of White Aspen, Café Blanco, Black Lava and Smoke, plus the antique-textured Travertine, Dark Basalt and Light Basalt. AFD lists the three antique finishes for the Milan fireplaces only. Each piece is handcrafted, so expect slight variation in texture and color from the sample.

Manual Models Run the 48-Inch Burner at 65,000 BTU, FyreStarter Models at 100,000 BTU

AFD rates the manual model at 65,000 BTU and the FyreStarter model at 100,000 BTU, on natural gas or propane. The manual flame sensing valve now includes a spark igniter, so you light it at the unit without a match. FyreStarter models light and adjust from a phone over Bluetooth, carry A and C USB ports, and need 120-volt AC power at the unit.

Best for an Open Patio or Rooftop That Needs a Backdrop

At 60 inches tall it reads as a wall of fire, so it works where a seating area needs something to face, such as a deck edge or the far side of a patio. AFD's manual calls for at least 36 inches of clearance in front, 6 inches at the sides and back from combustible construction, and no construction of any kind overhead. That rules out a covered patio, a porch roof or a pergola. If you would rather keep more of the view open, the Milan Low has the same 72-inch width, burner and finishes at 44 inches tall.

Plan the Gas Line, Anchoring and Delivery Before It Ships

The fireplace cannot hold a propane tank. For propane, pair it with a remote tank such as the Contempo Tank End Table and a hose like the 10 ft LP Extension Hose; for natural gas, AFD calls for a gas line of at least 1/2-inch inside diameter, larger on runs over 20 feet, and a shut-off valve (not included) within 6 feet of the unit. Installation should be done by an NFI-certified or other qualified installer.

It ships crated at 730 lbs in 9 pieces, and the base must be bolted to a hard, level surface, so plan the pad and the delivery crew in advance. AFD says not to run it in heavy rain, which can make it cycle on and off, or in high wind, which can push the flame onto the concrete and crack or discolor the finish; the warranty excludes high-wind damage. AFD's fitted 8145A cover is on our Vinyl Cover for Fire Tables page. Each one is made to order.

Optional Accessories: Vinyl Cover for Fire Tables, Contempo Tank End Table, 10 ft LP Extension Hose

American Fyre Designs Milan Tall 72-Inch Freestanding Outdoor Gas Fireplace FAQ's

How much clearance does the Milan Tall need?

AFD's manual calls for at least 36 inches of clearance in front, 6 inches at the sides and back from combustible construction, and no construction of any kind overhead.

Can the Milan fireplace go under a covered patio or pergola?

No. AFD does not permit any overhead construction above the unit, so it belongs on an open patio, deck or rooftop.

What is the difference between the Milan Tall and Milan Low?

Both are 72 inches wide with the same 48-inch burner and output. The Tall stands 60 inches high and weighs 730 lbs; the Low stands 44 inches high and weighs 560 lbs.

Can the Milan fireplace run on propane?

Yes, but it cannot hold a tank. Propane models connect to a remote 20 lb cylinder through a hose, typically housed in a tank end table.

Does the Milan fireplace come with fire media?

Yes. AFD includes enough lava granules for both the base and primary layers. If you want fire glass instead, AFD calls for 35 lbs.

What is the difference between manual and FyreStarter models?

Both run at 65,000 BTU. FyreStarter adds Bluetooth control from a phone, a 33,000 BTU low setting, and needs 120-volt power at the unit.
