Napoleon GDS30LN Video

Description

A Slim Freestanding Gas Stove With Glass on Three Sides

The Napoleon Elora GDS30LN is a freestanding direct vent gas stove with glass on the front and both sides, and an electric heater built in alongside the gas burner. It stands tall and narrow, so it fits a short wall or a smaller room where a full fireplace would crowd the space. Run it on gas, on electric heat, or on both, which makes it as useful on a cool fall evening as in the middle of winter. It comes set up for natural gas and needs a log kit, sold separately, to finish the fire.

The Flame Stays in View From the Front and Both Sides

Most stoves show the fire through one door. The Elora wraps ceramic glass around three sides, so the flame reads from across the room and from either side of it, not just from the seat directly in front. That open look is a big part of why it feels lighter and more contemporary than a traditional stove.

You finish the firebox with Oak or Birch Luminous Logs, where the flames rise straight out of the logs rather than from a burner underneath. Light comes from two more places: an LED ember bed that glows beneath the logs, and an accent strip around three sides of the stove that runs in seven colors or cycles through them. Napoleon designed both to add depth even when the flames are off.

Run It on Gas, on Electric Heat, or on Both

Napoleon Authorized Dealer

The gas burner is the real fire and the main heat. The electric side is a built-in blower heater: turn it on from the remote and it adds its own warmth while pushing heated air out into the room, and the Napoleon logo on the front glows red so you can tell it's running. Napoleon puts the gain from running both together at up to 20 percent more heat than gas alone. In milder months you can leave the gas off and run the electric heat with the ember bed glowing, which keeps the stove in use long after a gas-only stove would sit dark.

The remote handles the rest. Its smart thermostat turns the flame down on its own as the room gets close to the temperature you set, and split flow lets you switch the flames on the logs on or off to change how full the fire looks.

Best Where People See the Stove From Several Angles

The three-sided glass only pays off if the sides are visible, so the Elora suits open living areas and rooms where seating wraps around the stove. Set it where the sides are in view rather than tucked into a corner. Its narrow footprint also makes it a good fit for apartments, condos and smaller rooms that still want a real gas fire, and the included safety barrier is worth knowing about if you have children or pets. Napoleon asks you to keep furniture, curtains and anything else that can burn at least 4 feet from the front.

Plan the Venting and the Log Kit Before You Order

The Elora is direct vent, so it needs venting to the outside. It can vent out the top or the back, and the venting is sold separately. Decide which way you'll go early, because it also decides which decorative panel kit fits if you add one. Contact us with your layout and we'll help you put the right venting together.

It also plugs in, with a three-prong cord, so plan a grounded outlet close to where the stove will sit. Napoleon advises against an extension cord. In a power outage, four AA batteries keep the flame and its height control working, but the blower, the electric heat and the night light wait until the power comes back.

Every Elora needs one Napoleon Elora Luminous Log Kit, in Birch or Oak, so order it with the stove. If you're on propane, add the Napoleon Natural Gas to Propane Conversion Kit (W175-10010236); a qualified technician should install both the stove and the conversion, following Napoleon's installation manual and local codes. One small thing that surprises people: the accent light is controlled by a switch on the back of the stove, not by the remote.

Napoleon Elora 18-Inch Freestanding Three-Sided Direct Vent Hybrid Gas Stove (GDS30LN) FAQ's

Is the Napoleon Elora a gas stove or an electric stove?

Both, and you can run either one on its own. Napoleon rates the gas burner at up to 25,000 BTUs (natural gas with top venting; rear venting is 24,000) and the electric blower heater at 5,000 BTUs, for up to 30,000 BTUs together. On mild days you can run just the electric heat with the ember bed glowing. It is certified as both a gas and an electric appliance: to the CSA and ANSI standards for vented gas heaters, and with ETL and UL listings.

Does the Napoleon Elora come with logs?

No. Every Elora needs one Napoleon Luminous Log Kit, sold separately, in Birch (BLKGDS30L) or Oak (OLKGDS30L). Order it with the stove so the fire is complete at installation.

Can the Napoleon Elora vent through the top or the back?

Yes, either one. It uses 4-inch exhaust by 7-inch intake direct venting, sold separately. A firestop spacer and vent shield come with the stove, but a ceiling firestop assembly for a vertical run is bought separately. If you add a decorative panel kit, order the Top Vent or Rear Vent version that matches. Your installer follows Napoleon's installation manual for the routing and clearances.

Can the Napoleon Elora run on propane?

Yes, with a conversion. The GDS30LN ships for natural gas, and propane needs the Napoleon Natural Gas to Propane Conversion Kit (W175-10010236), installed by a qualified technician.

Does the Napoleon Elora work during a power outage?

Partly. Four AA batteries in the battery back-up keep the gas flame and its height control working when the power goes out. The blower, the electric heat and the night light all need household power, so they stay off until it returns.

What is the difference between the Black Fluted and MIRRO-FLAME panels for the Elora?

It comes down to texture versus reflection. Black Fluted panels line the firebox with dark vertical ribs that frame the logs, while MIRRO-FLAME panels are reflective black porcelain that repeats the flame and makes the fire look deeper. Both are optional, and MIRRO-FLAME is the less expensive of the two.
