The Smart Forte: Six Flame Colors Over Ten Ember Colors

The Touchstone Forte Elite 40 is a built-in or wall-mounted electric fireplace with six flame colors, ten media bed colors and three flame speeds, all adjustable independently. Five brightness settings cover the flame and the bed separately. It needs no flue and no venting, and it either plugs in or hardwires.

A Thermostat You Set to a Temperature, Not a Setting

Most electric fireplaces give you high, low and off. The Forte Elite holds a room between 68 and 88°F, or runs constantly if you would rather. Two heat levels underneath it, 750 watts and 1,500, rated at 5,000 BTU and about 400 square feet, with a timer from 1 to 8 hours.

App, Voice or Remote, Whichever Is Nearer

It runs from the Tuya smartphone app over Wi-Fi, from Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, or from the remote in the drawer. Driftwood logs and crystal embers both come in the box.

A Television Can Sit 8 Inches Above It

Touchstone allows a TV 8 inches above the top of the fireplace, which is closer than most electric fireplaces permit. Size the fireplace at least as wide as the screen going above it, because a fireplace narrower than the television looks undersized however neatly it is installed.

Frame the Opening at 38 7/8 by 25 1/2 Inches

Frame the opening 38 7/8 inches wide and 25 1/2 high, and allow a full 6 inches of depth. Six inches sits just past what a 2x6 stud gives you, so check the framing before anything is cut rather than after; an opening a fraction too shallow is the one mistake that cannot be trimmed out.

Plan the Power, and the Weight

It plugs into a standard outlet or an electrician can hardwire it, which is usually the neater answer on a finished media wall. Either way run it on a 120-volt 15-amp circuit and keep other appliances off it. Never use an extension cord or a power strip. The fireplace weighs 58 lbs.
