We have not installed our Touchstone fireplace yet but we plugged it in and I don’t think the logs are very realistic and we plan on using it as a wall mount which stands out more than I thought it would.

My wife and I have been renovating a heritage home but in 1885. One room had a victorian coal firebox which we had inspected and ended up being approved as nothing more than a museum piece. Unsafe with the chimney unusable for any upgrade to gas or wood. Having utilized a Touchstone Fireplace unit for our dining room renovation (Onyx:registered:XL Touchstone 72"), we naturally returned to Touchstone for possibilities. After some chat sessions with Brian and Evan at Touchstone, the Sideline fit the bill. We had room for a 50" but went with the 36 because, well, the 50 would have been "too much" for the room. The renovation was for the room to be a library which would contain books, photos, relics from our travels and the fireplace. With all that going on, we wanted the fireplace to be an accent, not the focal point (Side note: when we did the dining room renovation, the fireplace was the focal point so, yeah, 72", baby!) The Sideline 36 is perfect! The flame effect is realistic, soothing, relaxing and compliments the room's aesthetics perfectly (as well as a glass of 18 year old scotch). When I framed the unit in, I left space for a powered bluetooth speaker to be place behind the unit, which I play fireplace sounds through using my smart phone. The combined effect has double taken a lot of friends who have been over. "Is that gas or wood?" “Wait, is that electric?” ”How'd you fix the chimney problem for smoke?”. We have found Touchstone fireplaces to be the answer twice now. Highly. Recommended.

We build entire stone and tiles surrounding the fireplace and TV. The Touchstone Electric Sideline 36 in will give you tools to create you own design of a real fireplace (flames looks real).
