A Slim-Depth Recessed Electric Fireplace in Three Widths

The Touchstone Fury Series Slim is an electric fireplace that goes into a framed wall or hangs on one, built shallower than almost anything else in the line. There is no chimney, no gas line and nothing to vent, and the flame runs with or without heat. It comes in 46, 57 and 65 inches, which are widths chosen to sit under a flat-screen television rather than to fill a feature wall.

Ten Flame Colors Over Ten Ember Colors, and the Embers Pulse

Most electric fireplaces give you three flame colors. This one gives ten, over ten ember bed colors, each at five levels of speed and brightness, and the ember bed pulses rather than sitting static. You can also run the ember bed with the flame switched off, which is a quieter look than most units can manage. Driftwood logs and crushed glass both come in the box.

Control It From the App, Alexa, Google Home or the Remote

It is Wi-Fi enabled and works with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. It also holds its settings when it is run through a smart switch, which sounds small until you have used a fireplace that forgets everything each time the power cuts. A remote comes in the box and the panel on the unit does the same job.

Heat to 400 Square Feet, With a Thermostat or High and Low

The heater puts out 5,000 BTU and covers about 400 square feet, with a thermostat or plain high and low settings. Touchstone rates the fan 25 percent stronger than the previous series. This is supplemental heat for one room, not central heating, and the flame runs independently of it.

Frame the Opening at 44 9/16 Inches for the 46-Inch

The 46-inch model needs a rough opening 44 9/16 inches wide, 18 7/8 high and 4 1/2 deep. The fireplace is 46 inches wide, 20 tall and 4 1/2 deep and weighs 58 lbs; the 57-inch is 67 lbs and the 65-inch is 74 lbs. Check the drawing for the size you are buying before you frame anything.

Slim Does Not Mean It Fits a 2x4 Wall

At 4 1/2 inches deep the firebox needs more than the 3 1/2 inches a 2x4 wall gives you, so a full recess wants 2x6 framing. It is still the shallowest option Touchstone makes, which matters when you are building out a wall rather than opening an existing one, because every inch of bump-out is floor space you lose.
