The Lexington Hearth Madison is a wall-mounted mantel shelf made from composite wood veneer, with clean lines, gentle curves and tiered moldings. It is not solid lumber, which is why it costs a fraction of a cast or hardwood mantel of the same size, and it carries the same milled detail on every exposed edge. It is the shallowest of the five Commonwealth profiles, which is what makes it the one that fits rooms the deeper mantels crowd.

6 inches deep, in 48, 60 and 72 inches

The depth is the same in every length. Size it from the firebox opening plus the reveal you want on each side, not from the width of the wall.

It weighs 12, 16 and 18 pounds, shortest length to longest, light enough for a two-person install

The mounting bracket and six fasteners are in the box, and the bracket has to land on framing rather than on drywall anchors alone.

It is combustible, so your fireplace manual sets the height, not the mantel

Composite wood veneer is combustible, the same as solid wood. Find the mantel clearance in your fireplace manual before you measure anything. Best for narrow walls, tight walkways and rooms where a deep shelf would be in the way

At 6 inches the Madison projects four inches less than the Woodford, and that difference is the whole reason to choose it. In a room where the fireplace sits beside a doorway, at the end of a hallway, or on a wall people walk past rather than sit in front of, a deep shelf is something you catch a shoulder on. The tiered molding still gives you real detail at that depth. If you want the shelf to hold more than a few small frames, step up to the Woodford.
