Description

Wired to 240V It Puts Out 8,530 BTU, Roughly Double a Standard Linear Electric

The Ignite Evolve is a built-in linear electric fireplace that runs on either 120V or 240V, and the voltage you wire it to decides whether it is ambiance with a little warmth or a genuine heat source for a large room. Dimplex sells it in four sizes, the Evolve 50, Evolve 60, Evolve 74 and Evolve 100, each named for its width in inches.

The Voltage Decision Is the One That Matters

On a standard 120V circuit it produces 5,118 BTU, in line with most linear electrics. Hardwired to 240V it reaches 8,530 BTU and Dimplex rates it for up to 1,000 square feet. That is close to double, and it is the reason to choose this over a cheaper linear unit. Decide before the wall closes, because running 240V afterwards is an expensive change.

Recesses Flush in 2x6, Partially in 2x4 With the Trim Kit

Dimplex Authorized Dealer

Dimplex specifies a framing depth of 5-1/2 inches for a flush install, which is exactly what a 2x6 wall gives you. In a 2x4 wall it goes in partially recessed against a 3-1/2 inch framing depth, and the Trim Kit finishes the edge where the unit stands proud of the drywall. That second option matters, because most existing interior walls are 2x4 and most linear fireplaces this size will not go into them at all.

Certified for Outdoor Installation Under an Overhang

Dimplex certifies the Ignite Evolve for outdoor use when it is sheltered from direct water, and ties warranty coverage to a specific rule: the height from the base of the fireplace to the underside of the overhang must be no more than three times how far that overhang projects. Their own example is an overhang 9 feet up needing to extend at least 3 feet out on all sides. Coverage is 5 years indoors and 1 year outdoors. A ground-fault protected circuit is recommended either way.

Outdoors, moving air carries warmth away whatever the BTU figure says, so treat the fireplace as the focal point and let overhead patio heaters do the heating.

Seven Flame Themes and Eight Media Colors, Adjusted Independently

Flame color runs across yellow, orange, blue and blended combinations with five speed settings. The media bed and the top lighting carry eight color themes of their own. An ambient light sensor reads the room and adjusts brightness through the day, which is the detail you notice most: the flame does not wash out at noon or glare at midnight.

The media itself is layered rather than a single bed, with small and large acrylic crystals, tumbled glass, and driftwood logs molded from real wood.

Runs From a Phone Over WiFi, a Remote, or the Panel on the Unit

The Flame Connect app controls the fireplace from a phone, and Dimplex tells installers to put the unit somewhere a WiFi signal actually reaches. Check that alongside the circuit, because the spots people pick for a linear fireplace, a basement wall or a room over the garage, are often the ones the router covers worst. The unit also reports operation and maintenance feedback back through the app.

The other two ways in do not touch the network. The supplied remote is infrared, so it has to be pointed at the front of the fireplace to work, and hidden touch controls sit on the upper right for standby, heat, thermostat, brightness and flame theme. If the WiFi drops, nothing stops working.

What We Would Tell You Before You Order

Get an electrician to confirm you can run a 240V circuit to the wall before you buy. If you cannot, the unit still works on 120V, but you are paying for capacity you will not use.

The Evolve 50, 60, 74 and 100 all put out the same heat, so size is a proportion decision for the wall rather than a heating one.

Dimplex covers this for 5 years indoors, which is longer than most of the linear electric category and worth weighing against a cheaper unit with 2.

Dimplex Ignite Evolve Built-In Electric Fireplace FAQ's

How much heat does it put out, and does the wiring change that?

Yes, and this is the main thing to understand about the Ignite Evolve. On a 120V circuit it produces 5,118 BTU, in line with most linear electrics. Hardwired to 240V it reaches 8,530 BTU and Dimplex rates it for up to 1,000 square feet. That is close to double. Decide the voltage before the wall is closed, because running a 240V circuit afterwards is an expensive change.

Will it fit a 2x6 wall?

Yes. Dimplex specifies a framing depth of 5-1/2 inches for a flush install, which is exactly what a 2x6 wall gives you. In a 2x4 wall it goes in partially recessed against a 3-1/2 inch framing depth, with trim finishing the edge where the unit stands proud of the drywall. Note the product depth of 5-3/4 inches includes that trim, so do not use it to work out whether the unit fits your framing.

Do I need the Trim Kit?

Only for a 2x4 wall. If you are framing 2x6 or already have it, the fireplace finishes flush on its own and the Trim Kit adds nothing. In a 2x4 wall the kit is what makes the partial recess look deliberate rather than unfinished.

Can I plug it in instead of hardwiring?

Yes, with the optional plug kit, into a standard 120V outlet. At that voltage you get 5,118 BTU rather than 8,530. If heat is the reason you are buying this model, plugging it in gives up the advantage you are paying for.

What does the ambient light sensor do?

It reads the light in the room and adjusts the flame brightness through the day, so the display does not wash out in afternoon sun or glare in a dark room at night. It is the detail people notice most after living with it.

Can the Ignite Evolve be installed outdoors?

Yes. Dimplex certifies it for outdoor installation, sheltered by an overhang that keeps direct water off it, and recommends a ground-fault protected circuit. There is a specific rule if you want the warranty to hold: the height from the bottom of the fireplace to the underside of the overhang must be no more than three times how far that overhang projects. Dimplex's own example is an overhang 9 feet up needing to extend at least 3 feet out on all sides. Two things to know: the warranty is 5 years indoors and 1 year outdoors, and outdoors moving air carries warmth away whatever the BTU figure says, so pair it with overhead patio heaters if you want people to feel warm.
