A Built-in / recessed electric fireplace is a ventless electricity-powered fireplace imitation that is designed to be installed inside a wall opening. 

There are two styles or recessed electric fireplaces: recessed linear electric fireplaces and recessed electric fireplace inserts.

Linear electric fireplaces have this popular long horizontal fireplace look that is perfect for modern interiors.

Electric fireplace inserts (fireboxes) have a more traditional look and feature classic fireplace proportions. 

Do They Provide Heat?

Most built-in electric fireplaces come with heaters and are able to heat 500 - 1000 sq. ft.

Installation

Both types of built-in fireplaces, linear and inserts, can be installed into any wall including drywall as well as cabinetry. 

Basic steps to install a recessed electric fireplace:

1. Create an opening in the wall.
2. Rough-in the framing opening following the recommended framing
   dimensions.
   
3. Hardwire it in (licensed electrician).
4. Place the fireplace into the framed opening.
5. Attach the fireplace to the frame.
6. Install the decor and front glass and/or frame.

Most recessed electric fireplaces come with a cord to plug them in and an option to hardwire them. There are some models that are hardwired only. Hardwiring is a preferred method of installation.

We recommend hiring a licensed electrician to properly install your recessed electric fireplace. All wiring needs to be done before installing the fireplace.
